Overeating

You eat when you are happy and you also eat when you are feeling low. Food seems like the most obvious distraction from the daily woes. Most of us have almost lost our ability to tell when we are hungry and when we are content. Overeating has become a phenomenal problem, especially in America where the portion sizes grow faster than our waistlines.

Needless to say, all those calories that you unnecessarily intake, manifest into pounds of fat and get stored around your belly. Although, the causes of overeating are myriad, the binging pattern is the same.

If you suffer from the problem of compulsive overeating disorder and wish to know about how to control overeating, then this article is for you. Given below are some tips on how to stop overeating.

5 Tips to Help You Stop Overeating

1. Know When to Stop

The temptation or craving for food often urges you to eat more than required. You fail to notice the signals that your stomach send to indicate that it is full. Normally, it takes about 12 minutes for the brain to receive the signals of food satisfaction. However, in an obese person, this time is about 20 minutes. As a result, you keep on gorging even when your stomach has long before attained its capacity. The feeling of stuffiness in your stomach is very uncomfortable. However, if you keep on hogging, you eventually become used to this feeling. Hence, it is important to know when your stomach has reached its capacity.

2. Eat Slowly & Chew More

When you eat really fast, you clear your plate within a few minutes, only to be replenished again. You don’t realize the amount of food that you consume within short duration. Hence, it is always best to eat slowly and chew your food throughly. Eating at a slower pace helps you to realize when you are full and content with not eating any more food. Also, chewing your food throughly can help improve the digestion process.

3. Do Not Get Distracted

Eating while watching television or driving does not allow you to focus solely on your food. As a result, you don’t realize the amount of food that you are stuffing your stomach with. Similarly, do not use food as a distraction while staying up at night or while working at a computer. When you eat, you need to concentrate on your food alone. Not only does it help in cutting down on your excess intake, but also results in better assimilation of food. If you want to know how to stop overeating at night or any other time in the day, then reading this article on suppress hunger might help you.

4. Drink Lost of Purified Water

Often, your body fails to distinguish between the signals of thirst and hunger pangs. As a result, you are likely to take thirst signals for hunger pangs and eat immodestly. Hence, it is necessary to regularly drink water, so that you keep your body well hydrated which prevents it form sending mixed signals. Drinking sips of water between meals is a great solution, if you want to know ‘how to stop overeating at dinner.’

5. Choose the Right Food

This is your ultimate solution to overeating. You are less likely to face health hazards due to overeating carrot sticks than due to overeating potato chips. Hence, whenever you feel an irresistible urge to eat, you may try switching to healthier versions of food. This is particularly true when your overeating is due to boredom or easy access to food.

If your overeating is due to some psychological condition, then addressing that issue first can eventually cure the problem of overeating. Treating the cause of overeating is your answer to ‘how to stop overeating’.

How to Get Bigger Muscle Gain

Friday, August 14th, 2009 | Author: Organic Blogger

get-bigger-musclesWhat does getting bigger actually mean? You can get bigger by stuffing yourself with junk food all day, but this will just make you fat. You can get bigger and lean to get a ripped physique, but this usually involves first getting bigger and then doing a cutting phase to get lean. Or you could get a physique which is in between these two physiques.

Getting bigger is normally referred to as “bulking up” which requires making adjustments to your diet and training regimen. Bulking up is a benefit to people who want to know how to gain weight. Gaining 30-40 lbs within 6-months of being on a bulk up diet and training is very common. It won’t all be muscle, but gaining some fat should be the least of your concerns. You can always get lean after you have gained the weight, and you will not look out of proportion because of the muscle you would have gained.

However, bulking up is not for all body types. If you are overweight and have a tendency to put on weight easily then it’s not suitable for you. If you have a fast metabolism (which is typical for hardgainers), then this method can be an effective way to increase muscle mass, get stronger and smash through those training plateaus.

Eat Big To Get Big

You need to eat a lot in order to get bigger! Missing out on breakfast and having lunch on the go is no longer an option if you are serious about getting bigger. You need to learn to eat proper meals, and you will want to buy food in bulk so you can prepare meals in advance. Just grab the prepared meals from the fridge in the morning when you are in a rush to get to work so you don’t skip on meals.

Meal Frequency

Eat at regular times throughout the day. Generally speaking you will want to eat 6 meals per day, every 3 hours like clockwork, including breakfast (6am), mid morning snack (9am), lunch (12pm), mid afternoon snack (3pm), dinner (6pm), and before you go to bed (around 9pm). Obviously the times can be different. This is the minimum eating requirements on a bulk up diet. It’s not uncommon for people who are bulking up to eat more than 2,500 calories. Exactly how many calories you will need to bulk up will depend on your weight, how often you are training, how much weight you want to gain and how fast you want to do it.

Stick With High Calorie Foods

Swap low calorie food for high calorie foods which have a high nutritional value. You need to be consuming excess calories if you want to bulk up.

Get Enough Protein

Buy a good protein supplement like Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey. Whey protein isolate is fast digesting and a cheap way of getting adequate protein in your diet. Protein powder can be easily added to weight gain shakes. The best time to take a weight gain protein shake is first thing in the morning and last thing at night. On workout days, instead you can drink one for breakfast and after the workout. Don’t always drink shakes to get your protein though. Eggs are another very good source of protein. You can make an eggs omelet with mushrooms, onions and salsa, which is very tasty and packed with protein.

Don’t Be Too Strict!

You are allowed to cheat with junk foods occasionally, just don’t make it a bad habit. You want to get the majority of your calories from unprocessed healthy foods. Eat what you want whenever you feel like it, just as long as are consistent with eating healthy foods.

Training

During the bulking up phase you will want to limit doing cardio because this form of exercise burns too many calories and does little for building muscle. You don’t need to spend hours in the gym in order to get big. In fact, over training can be detrimental to muscle gains. If you’re a hardgainer, you will not want to workout more then 3 times per week for 45 minutes each session.

When lifting weights, do heavy workouts with low reps (6-10 repetitions). This is the best way to get bigger. Focus on the basic compound exercises like squats, bench press, military press, pull ups, and so on. These exercises target the larger muscle groups. Working the large muscle groups like the chest, back, legs and shoulder will help with your efforts to increase testosterone levels, which is an anabolic hormones which plays a key role in muscle building.

How Teenage Dieting Can Lead To Problem Dieting

Friday, March 20th, 2009 | Author: Organic Blogger

Teenage Dieting
source

Dieting among teenagers has increased at alarming rates. Teenagers are at a very critical developmental stage in their lives and depriving their bodies of the essential nutrients could cause more harm than good. The problem is the type of diets that our teenagers are engaging in.

Fad Diets

Fad diets are on the rise within the teenage community; these diets are designed as the quick fix and their target audience is the impatient. Fad diets could lead your teenager to a serious eating disorder. In the event that a diet is warranted a more healthy approach needs to be taken.

Female Teens & The ‘Barbie’ Look

Female teenagers are more likely to develop an eating disorder than their male counterparts because they are more body image conscious. Whenever they turn on the television or open a magazine they are confronted with the “Barbie Doll” look.

They start to feel inadequate because they don’t possess that same look, which is an unattainable look in most cases. It is nearly impossible for us to monitor our teenagers eating habits so we need to be watchful of the signs that an eating disorder is developing.

One of the worst things that we can do is confront the issue aggressively. This is only going to cause them to act out and in some cases make the situation worse. During meal time watch how they are or are not eating.

Encourage open dialog during mealtime on any subject being careful to stay away from the dieting subject. Try to have your teenager eat more slowly and by all means no phones or television during dinner. We want to have their attention and avoid distractions.

Overcoming Teenage Eating Disorders

Eating disorders can be overcome and your support is necessary. Proper nutrition, exercise, and consuming one ounce of water for every pound that they weigh a day will get them back on track. Healthy eating, communication, and love will do wonders. Teenage dieting doesn’t have to be problem dieting.
